Vertical arches
Minecraft Arch Generator: Arch Chart with Pillars
Draw a vertical arch from the opening width, arch height and thickness, add pillars, and see block counts and a row-by-row chart to print or save.
Opening is the clear space between the pillars. Arch height is the outside height of the curved part. Pillars continue straight down below it.

Amber blocks are the pillars; they repeat the last arch row straight down. The opening is odd, so a single center column (column 8) holds the keystone.

How the arch is drawn
The arch is the top half of an elliptical ring: the outer half-ellipse minus the inner one. The outer curve is as wide as the opening plus two thicknesses and as high as the arch height. The inner curve has the opening width and is lower by one thickness. A block is kept when its center is inside the outer curve and outside the inner curve.
Pillars repeat the last row of the arch straight down, so the arch meets them without a step. Set the arch height equal to half the opening plus the thickness for a half circle; the Set a half circle button does this for you.
- Opening: the clear space between the pillars, 1 to 100 blocks.
- Thickness: how many blocks wide the ring is, 1 to 20.
- Pillar height: extra rows below the curve, 0 to 100.
- With an odd opening the top has one keystone column; with an even opening it has two.
Common questions
What does arch height mean here?
It is the outside height of the curved part, from the row where the pillars start to the top of the arch. Pillar height is added below it.
How do I make a half-circle arch?
Use an arch height of about half the opening plus the thickness. The Set a half circle button fills that in. A lower height gives a flat, wide arch and a higher one a pointed, tall arch.
Is a thickness of 1 enough?
It works, but on the diagonal parts the ring is one block wide and blocks may touch only at corners. Thickness 2 or more gives a sturdier ring.
